October through early December: the sweet spot

In this window, the weather is dry and the daytime temperature is cool (around 15–20°C in the morning, warming to mid-20s). The water in the pools stays at 36–38°C year-round, so the contrast — cool air, warm water — is at its best. The river runs clear. Humidity is low and the light is sharp. November is often cited by reviewers as the star month: comfortable mornings for the pickup drive, perfect soaking conditions, and you see the cave and canyon in good daylight.

Why weekdays beat weekends

Weekends and Mexican holidays (especially Easter week and December holidays) draw crowds from Mexico City. The park fills up, parking gets tight, vendors multiply, and the social experience shifts from natural geothermal soak to beach-day atmosphere. Weekdays — Tuesday through Thursday — are far quieter. If you can arrange a weekday tour, you get the canyon with a fraction of the people. Tours typically run the same schedule; the difference is crowd density in the pools and cave.

Winter: cold air, warm water

January through March brings cooler mornings (around 5–10°C at 5:30 am pickup) and occasional rain. The pools stay warm (36–38°C), so soaking is still excellent. The cave stays warm. The trade-off is the chilly morning drive and the morning air before you hit the water. Many visitors actually prefer winter for this reason — the cold makes the soak feel more rewarding. Plus, fewer tourists, so quieter days.

Spring and summer: heat and crowds

April through September bring heat (25–30°C daytime), humidity, and peak Mexican tourist season. The pools are still warm, but the contrast is less striking because the air is already warm. Crowds peak at Easter (late March or April) and summer vacation (July–August). If you are visiting in these months, book weekday tours and arrive early to the park.

Easter week: plan ahead

Easter week (Semana Santa) is a Mexican national holiday. The park is packed, vendors are numerous, parking fills up, and the atmosphere is festive but chaotic. If you want to visit near Easter, book a tour many weeks in advance and be prepared for crowd density. Alternatively, visit the week after Easter, when schools are back in session and crowds drop sharply.

Insider tip

If you have flexibility, choose a Tuesday or Wednesday in November. Cool air, warm water, few crowds, and the clearest light.
